What are dental implants?

What’s it like to get a dental implant?
The first step is to receive a comprehensive dental exam of your entire mouth, including a full set of dental X-rays, to ensure you have enough jawbone volume to support the implant. If you don’t have sufficient bone in your jaw, Dr. Chong may recommend a bone graft prior to getting the Astra Dental Implant.
If your consultation goes smoothly, Dr. Chong can begin the implant process. He provides a local anesthetic to make sure you’re comfortable throughout the surgery. Dr. Chong then makes a tiny incision in your gums, places the titanium rod into the bone socket of your missing tooth, and stitches up your gums.
It takes between two and four months for your implant and jawbone to fuse together. Once this happens, you return to Centreville Dental Design, where Dr. Chong exposes your implant and attaches a custom abutment. He then bonds the crown to the abutment marking the end of your dental implant surgery.
