Brushing Basics: Why Your Technique Matters More Than You Think

Brushing Basics: Why Your Technique Matters More Than You Think

Good oral health starts at home, and brushing your teeth is the foundation. But are you doing it right? Here’s a simple guide to make sure your smile stays sparkling.

Choosing a Toothbrush

Not all toothbrushes are the same! A soft-bristled brush—manual or electric—cleans well without hurting your gums. Electric ones can be a fun upgrade if you want extra help, but a regular brush works just fine with the right technique.

Picking Toothpaste

Look for fluoride on the label—it’s the key ingredient that fights cavities. There are pastes for whitening or sensitive teeth, but fluoride is the must-have. Ask us at your next visit if you’re unsure which is best for you!

How to Brush

Here’s the trick:

  1. Brush for two minutes, twice a day—set a timer if you need to!
  2. Use gentle, circular motions, not a hard scrub.
  3. Don’t forget the back teeth and your tongue—it keeps breath fresh.

Keep It Up

Brushing right is half the battle. Pair it with flossing and regular check-ups, and your teeth will thank you. Got questions? We’re here to help at your next appointment!
